Horticulture Crew Lead Job | Land Design Associates

About Land Design Associates

Land Design Associates Inc. is dedicated to enhancing outdoor environments that encourage meaningful experiences and time spent outside. We specialize in designing and building customized outdoor spaces that support well-being, collaboration, recreation, and relaxation for homes, workplaces, and communities. Every project we take on is developed through close collaboration with our clients, ensuring the finished landscape aligns with their brand identity, personal vision, and lifestyle.

We are deeply committed to green practices and environmental responsibility, and we strive to create outdoor spaces that feel like a natural extension of the property and the people who use it. Our approach goes beyond simply installing plants and hardscaping — we think holistically about how a space will be used, who will use it, and how it can support a healthier, more connected way of living.

Beyond the technical work of landscaping, our team takes pride in building genuine relationships with the families and communities we serve. We actively involve families in our process and enjoy taking the time to educate children about sustainability, plant care, and the natural world around them. It’s this combination of technical craftsmanship and genuine community connection that sets Land Design Associates apart, and it’s the kind of culture we’re looking to bring onto our team through this role.

Horticulture Crew Lead Role Description

The Horticulture Crew Lead is a full-time, on-site position responsible for leading a crew in the installation, maintenance, and enhancement of residential and commercial landscapes. This includes planting, pruning, mulching, seasonal color installations, and both fall and spring clean-up projects. The Crew Lead plays a central role in ensuring that every job site reflects the high standards our clients have come to expect from Land Design Associates.

This is a hands-on leadership position. The Horticulture Crew Lead isn’t just managing from the sidelines — they’re actively working alongside the crew, setting the pace, modeling best practices, and stepping in wherever needed to keep a project moving forward. It’s a role suited to someone who genuinely enjoys the physical and horticultural work itself, but who is also ready to take on the added responsibility of guiding a team.

Daily Responsibilities of the Horticulture Crew Lead

On a day-to-day basis, the Horticulture Crew Lead organizes work plans, assigns tasks to crew members, and ensures that projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in line with company quality standards. This includes operating and monitoring landscape equipment, coordinating the delivery and use of plant materials and supplies, and keeping project managers and clients informed of progress, changes, or any issues that arise on site.

Additional daily responsibilities include:

-Reviewing job site plans and communicating expectations to the crew before work begins

-Inspecting completed work throughout the day to ensure it meets company quality standards

-Troubleshooting on-site issues, such as unexpected soil conditions, plant health concerns, or equipment malfunctions

-Maintaining accurate records of materials used, hours worked, and job progress

-Ensuring all safety protocols are followed, including proper use of personal protective equipment and safe operation of machinery

-Communicating directly with clients when on-site, addressing questions or concerns in a professional and courteous manner

Beyond the technical and logistical responsibilities, this role is also about people. The Horticulture Crew Lead is expected to coach and mentor crew members, offering hands-on training and constructive feedback that helps develop their skills over time. Supporting sustainable horticultural practices is a key part of the role, as is helping to foster a positive, respectful, and collaborative work environment where crew members feel valued and supported.
