Magazine – worthy landscape design in Chestnut Hill, MA
Nestled atop the rolling landscape of Chestnut Hill, this residence required a landscape architectural design as unique as its setting. The home, with its stately charm, warranted a garden that would seamlessly blend with its character, enhancing the property’s livability and visual appeal.
Key to this transformation was the enhancement of the existing retaining walls and stonework, which serve as the backbone of the garden’s structure. To breathe life into the stonework, lush plantings were selected and placed, creating a tapestry of greenery that softens the hardscape and injects vibrancy into the backyard.
A key addition to the landscape was a stepping stone walkway, gracefully winding along the second tier of the wall. This path not only connects the garden’s diverse sections but also offers a journey through varying vistas, inviting one to explore and engage with the space’s natural beauty.
Ascending the stepping stones, one is drawn to the elevated fire pit area, a sanctuary that boasts a mature tree standing sentinel. This secluded nook, reminiscent of an Italian villa’s hidden nodes, offers a tranquil retreat where one can bask in the warmth of the fire while enveloped by the serenity of nature.
This landscape design is not just a backdrop for the home but a living, breathing extension of it—where every stone, every plant, and every path tells the story of a place designed not merely to be seen, but to be experienced.
